Energy Protection: Prioritising Your Well-Being in Everyday Life

One thing I’m a huge advocate for is protecting your energy. Our energy is such a vital part of who we are. Have you ever walked into a room and instantly felt a ‘bad vibe’? That vibe is energy! Everything around us carries it—places, food, people, you name it. This energy can either fuel us or drain us, yet many people don’t even realise the impact it has on their well-being.
“When a flower doesn’t bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.”
We are like that flower. Our energy thrives when we nurture it and take care of ourselves. Here are some of the ways I personally keep my energy levels high:
Self-care: When I look good, I feel good. Pampering myself gives me a confidence boost that directly impacts my energy.
Clean my environment: A clean, calming environment is everything. I use incense, sage, and candles to create a space that feels safe and welcoming. It really helps to have a sanctuary to recharge in.
Connect with my spirituality: Meditation has been a game-changer for me. It’s amazing how much peace and clarity can come from just five minutes of quieting the mind. I often use guided meditations on Spotify, and it leaves me feeling renewed every time.
Rest: Sometimes, the best thing to do is nothing. When I’m overwhelmed, I take a nap or just allow myself to relax. It helps recharge my brain and reset my energy.
Workout: I used to hate hearing this, but it’s true—exercise makes us happier. It took me years to find a routine I actually enjoy, but yoga has become my go-to. After every session, I feel nothing but joy.
Be kind to myself: Positive thinking doesn’t always come easily, and that’s okay. On tough days, I remind myself to be gentle and accept downtime as a necessary part of the process.
If I notice my energy is still off, I start to look deeper into my surroundings. Often, the environment plays a bigger role than we think:
Work: Am I feeling overwhelmed or underappreciated? How is my work environment affecting my energy?
Socialising: Am I surrounding myself with people who uplift me? Am I going to places I actually enjoy, or just going along with plans out of obligation? For example, clubbing and excessive drinking drain my energy now, leaving me off-balance for days afterwards.
Organisation: When life gets busy, things can feel chaotic. A lack of control drains my energy, so I stay on top of it with calendars, reminders, and to-do lists to keep my personal life organised.
By reflecting on these areas, you can start to identify where your energy might be leaking and make changes to protect it. Here are a few more things I’ve found helpful for maintaining a protective barrier around my energy:
Visualisation: I like to imagine a protective bubble around myself, shielding me from anything that drains my energy.
Set clear boundaries: Learn to say no without guilt. Your time and energy are precious, and it’s okay to prioritise yourself. Whether it’s with friends, family, or work, be clear about what you can and can’t commit to.
Limit media consumption: The content we consume can significantly impact our energy. Whether it’s social media, the news, or even certain shows, be mindful of how they make you feel. If something leaves you drained or anxious, it’s okay to step back or take a break.
Surround yourself with positive people: You’re the sum of the five people you spend the most time with. Make sure they are people who lift you up and inspire you, rather than drain your energy or bring negativity into your life.
Ground yourself: Spending time in nature or doing grounding exercises like walking barefoot on grass can help balance your energy. Being in nature is incredibly healing and can help release any built-up negativity.
Declutter your space: Our physical space is a reflection of our mental space. By decluttering and organising your environment, you can promote a sense of calm and increase your positive energy flow.
Energetic cleansing: Every now and then, do an energetic cleanse. You can do this through smudging with sage, taking salt baths, or using crystals like black tourmaline to absorb negative energy. These small rituals help release stagnant or negative energy that may be lingering in your space or around you.
Protecting your energy is an essential part of self-care and personal well-being. By paying attention to the energy around us and within us, we can make conscious choices that nurture and recharge us. Whether it’s through self-care, setting boundaries, or creating a positive environment, the steps we take to protect our energy ultimately allow us to show up as the best versions of ourselves. Remember, you are the flower, and the more you nurture your environment—both internal and external—the more you will thrive. Be mindful of what you allow into your life, and make protecting your energy a priority every day.
